Kobunboku Series

 f

The Japanese word Kaden means Family secret. This Baieido "Old Family Secret" is the same formula as Kobunboku, but with the addition of Tsukigase Vietnamese aloeswood. This is an incense to be cherished during times of meditation, deep reflection and relaxation.

f

Kobunboku is an Expression of the Plum Tree. The Plum Flower is well known from ancient China as the flower of peace. This traditional Buddhist formula is made with Sandalwood and herb incense. Ko means Nice - Bun means Elegant - Boku means Wood or Tree.

The characteristics of Byakudan Sandalwood Kobunboku

f

Kaden Kobunboku is an incredible Vietnamese jinko and herb incense that is particularly suited for meditation practice.

f

" Kaden Kobunboku is the “Family Secret” version of Kobunboku and the aloeswood changes to Baieido’s Tsukigase, a soft and mellow Vietnamese type. Where the Tokusen was mellow and smooth, Kaden works a bit hotter and on a livelier level, with perhaps a more obvious complexity. The level of spice here approaches essential oil level, with the cinnamon and clove a lot more obvious and even competitive with the woods for attention. (...) It’s a very traditional and even hoary scent and perhaps one to work your way up to as it constrasts nicely to the regular and Tokusen versions. And even with a much brasher approach there is no complexity or sophistication lost here. "

 Kobunboku series

f

"If you consider both affordability and quality in your incense purchasing, there may be no better series than Baieido’s Kobunboku line. From top to bottom it’s a virtual triumph of incense crafting, particularly when you consider that none of these use any overt perfumes or oils in them.(...)

It’s a line with aromatic qualities. If you’re new to Japanese incense there really are few better starter incenses than what could be found here, and other than the anomalous smokeless Bikou Kobunboku, every single one of these can be solidly recommended. But do take your time with them, these are not scents to jump to conclusion on, they’re perhaps a little smarter than your own nose at first and patience will repay itself manifold."

Baieido Company

 Baieido

f

Baieido's incense is like opening a door and finding, to our joy, an old friend waiting there.

In this way it is good fortune to sit quietly, relax, and perhaps sip some tea while enjoying the exquisite offerings of fine Japanese incense.

g

Baieido dates back to the Muromachi period (1338-1573) in Japanese history. During this period, the founder of Baieido, Kakuuemon Yamatoya, became a wholesaler of medicinal herbs in Sakai city. Sakai was a well-known trading port in ancient Japan in which incense trading was in high demand. In 1657, the founder named himself "Jinkoya Sakubei" and specialized in selling incense ingredients and incense sticks. "Jinkoya" (Aloes wood trader) was a name peculiar to Sakai, only medicinal wholesalers who specialized in incense were authorized to use this name.

f

The creation of Incense is an extraordinarily delicate process. In the time-honored traditions of Jinkoya Sakubei, Baieido has dedicated itself to making incense for over 300 years. The method and recipes have been handed down from generation to generation in an unbroken secret oral tradition.

f

Baieido continue to protect the secret formulas of their ancestral forefather Jinkoya Sakube. It is the ardent desire of Baieido to provide the true sacred aromas of only the purest high quality incense to our customers through the methods treasured since our establishment in the year 1657.

WELCOME TO THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF FRAGRANCE

Koh-do (“Way of Incense”) is the Japanese art of appreciating incense. It has been known for over 1000 years and recognized as elegant and refined. It is important part of poetry and classical literature of Japan.

Incense burning is a source of inspiration. It brings inner peace and spiritual freedom to the mind.

There are two major types of incense in Japan.

Indirect-burning incense, which can be smoldering piece of fragrant wood, and direct-burning incense in a form of stick or cone, made from incense paste without a bamboo core.

Kohgen is selling exactly those types of Japanese Incense.

Since there is no bamboo core and incense is made from pure incense material, you can enjoy pure fragrance without underlying scent of burning wood.

g

The process of making Japanese incense:

Blending the finest natural ingredients and binding them with the powder of Tabu-koh, the bark of Tabu-no-ki. Tabu-no-ki is Japanese huge bay tree (Machilus thunbergii), which belongs to Laurel family. After such combination is mixed with water it is extruded just like spaghetti, and then allowed to dry in a form of solid sticks of pure incense.
